Best ways to getting around Munich during Oktoberfest

Hello,

We will be staying in a hotel about 2 miles from the Oktoberfest site.

Will it be difficult to travel by tram or taxi to the site? I am expecting crazy, crowded subways...am I right?

Thank you!

Hi Jennifer,

You're right, public transport will be crowded! But it's still the best possibility to get to the Oktoberfest.

The underground lines 4 and 5 stop directly at Theresienwiese and offer the shortest walk to the tents. During the Wiesn, these lines will run every 3-5 minutes. Still, they're always packed, and smell like beer :-(

Another possibility is to take the lines 3 and 6 to Goetheplatz. They're less crowded, but it's a slightly longer walk to the Festplatz.

Depending where you stay, the S-Bahn is also an option. From the stop Hackerbrücke it's a 10 minute walk with thousands of other visitors to the Theresienwiese (you can't miss it).

All S-Bahn lines stop at Hackerbrücke and they run every 1-2 minutes in the city center.

Taxi is also an option, but can become quite difficult. During rush hour you might have to wait a long time. This is the best season for the taxis and they're all booked out. The taxi companies even "import" taxi drivers from other cities to give faster service to all the waiting clients.

Anyhow, don't worry, it might take a bit longer than usual, but the public transport takes you safely to and from the Oktoberfest.

This was extremely helpful!

Hi,

my wife and I are leaving tomorrow for Oktoberfest and found this to be one of the best places for quick answers to a lot of our questions. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!
