Munich Subway
A Fast and Easy Way to Get Around in Munich
Getting around in Munich is most convenient if you take the Munich subway.
On the picture to the right you can see the subway station at Königsplatz
, which is one of
the most beautiful stations.
The whole public transport in Munich is not only fast and easy, but also very safe. Even at night there's no need to worry for a woman traveling alone on the Munich subway.
The public transport system in Munich consists of:
- subway or underground(U-Bahn)
- rapid suburban trains (S-Bahn)
- tram (Strassenbahn)
- buses
Even when you bring your own car, I still recommend leaving it at the hotel parking lot. Parking space in downtown, where most of the Munich landmarks and museums are, is rare and expensive.
You wouldn't want to spend half of your vacations searching for a parking space. And you definitely wouldn't want to find your car towed away because of "innovative parking".
The traffic inside the Mittlerer Ring (Ring street around the central part of Munich) is horrible, especially during rush hour.
Taking the Munich subway instead will help you to reach your destinations inside Munich much faster and easier. Though, if you plan to visit other destinations, like Neuschwanstein Castles, I recommend a rental car or a guided tour.
Hauptbahnhof (central station) is the center of all public transport in Munich. Apart from the long distance trains, all eight S-Bahn lines and four of the Munich subway lines (U-Bahn) cross here.
Independently whether you reach our beautiful city via air flight or train, you will most probably arrive at Hauptbahnhof sooner or later.
Just in front of central station, long distance buses leave to cities like Paris, Prague, or Budapest.
You see, getting around in Munich is very easy! :-)
The only difficulty about using the Munich subway is to understand the price system :-(
