Campgrounds during Oktoberfest

Hi,

My buddy and I are looking for Oktoberfest 2010 housing. We know we are somewhat late in the process and that prices may have risen sharply.

We came across something called Stoke Campground, it says it's located 10 minutes outside Theresienwiese with daily shuttles offered. We thought it may be fun to do the camping experience, but I wasn't sure if this was merely a 'tourist trap'.

Just curious if you could comment on camping for Oktoberfest, or whether we are best advised to get a hostel.

Thanks!

Hi John,

The Stoke Campgrounds are located in Untermenzing, which is still in Munich, but not so easily reached via public transport.

It seems, that the main focus of the whole Stoke is getting drunk (judging from their website). After Oktoberfest closes the tents at 10 p.m., you continue the party with flat fee drinking on their grounds.

If this is what you want, fine. Personally, I wouldn't.

Oktoberfest is much more than drinking and you can have lots of fun without getting completely drunk.

As for the accomodation, I'd recommend a hostel in the city, where you can walk from Theresienwiese and are independent of public transport or shuttle services.

If you want to camp (with your own tent), you can try the campground in Thalkirchen, that is very nice and quiet during night (no big party!)
