Trying to move to Germany
I am hoping you can help me.
I am a Canadian, my boyfriend has dual citizenship (Canada/Germany). He has found a job and would like me to move there with him. Now we have been living together here in Canada for 3 years. The last year he has been doing his Masters in Germany.
I am not sure what Visa would be best suited to our situation. I currently hold a TESL certificate so that I can teach English in Germany. I have my high school diploma and no further education. I do plan on taking a German course which will be 20 hours a week,(learning the German language and culture) for 6 months to a year when I arrive. I would like to be able to work in between class. Is this possible.
The next issue is he has opened up a German bank where he is the only one on the account currently. I had read that I need to have savings for the time I'm there to show I have means to support myself. How much do I have to have. With him living away for the past year things have been tight. So can he just show them his German back account? Also can we just add myself to his German account when I get there to help this situation.
I know that we can get married here in Canada, but this is not an option. We do not want to rush into things, and make our marriage about getting my visa.
Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Patty,
I cannot give you any legal advice about your special situation, just some general answers. For advice regarding your specific situation, please ask a lawyer.
If you want to work in Germany, you will definitely need a work visa.

About the German bank account, he can either give you the rights to use it, or open up a shared account between the two of you.
As for the funds you need, if your boyfriend has a job in Germany, he can also "guarantee" for your expenses. But you need to check the details with the German consulate or embassy in Canada.
