10 More Museums To Discover With Bus 100
The bus 100 Museumslinie will take you past 21 museums in Munich. If you didn't read the first part, click here.
12 Residenz (Royal Residence)
At the stop Odeonsplatz you find the Munich Residenz that served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918.
The Residenz museum with the royal apartments is my favorite museum in Munich. It is amazing!
Apart from the royal apartments, the Residence hosts Schatzkammer
(treasury or crown jewels), Cuvillies-Theater (old private theatre named after its architect) and
a small church.
You can visit two more exhibitions inside the Residence complex:
Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst
(Egyptian museum) and Staatliche Münzsammlung (Collection
of Coins).
Don't forget to take a break and relax in the beer garden "Hofgarten" before hopping onto the bus again to our next stop Von-der-Tann-Strasse.
13 Siemens Forum
Siemens Forum impresses through the modern building.
The permanent exhibition gives you an insight into the 160 years of Siemens history.
You'll be taken onto a journey from the beginning of electronic engineering with the first telephone (telegraph) and the subsequent technological changes happening in the last 100+ years.
14 Deutsches Theatermuseum (German Theatre Museum)
Located in the Hofgarten, it gives you a brief overview of the theatre history in Germany.
15 Haus der Kunst (House of Art)
Two more stations on the bus 100 and you've reached the English garden. Before giving in to the temptation of relaxing on the "Munich beach" at the shore of Eisbach, visit the Haus der Kunst with changing temporary exhibitions of very modern art of the last decade(s).
16 Archäologische Staatssammlung (archaeological collection)
Only 300 meters from the House of Art in a side street is the Bavarian archeological collection. The building looks quite ugly from the outside, but the interior will surprise you pleasantly.
Visitors to the permanent exhibition can experience
more than 120 000 years of Bavarian history from the very beginning of prehistoric ages up to now.
17 Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Bavarian National Museum)
It is one the major art and cultural history museums in Europe. The building itself is spectacular from the outside and inside. Even if you don't plan to visit the Bavarian National Museum, take a quick look into the huge entrance hall.
In the basement is a permanent crib exhibition, with artistically Christmas cribs from all over Europe. I can only recommend visiting the cribs, even during summer time!
18 Museum Vermessen in Bayern (Cartographic Museum)
It lies opposite to the Bayerische Nationalmuseum, hidden in a small side street in the building of the Landesamt für Vermessung und Geoinformation (State Office for Cartography and Geo-Information).
19 Schack-Galerie (Schack Gallery)
Schack Gallery houses the vast collection of late Duke Schack, an intellectual man of letters from Mecklenburg. He started his unique collection of contemporary art (of that time) in Munich around 1857.
Main artists in the collection are Spitzweg, Moritz von Schwind, Franz von Lenbach, Feuerbach and Böcklin.
20 Museum Villa Stuck
Villa Stuck located near the Friedensengel (Angel of Peace) in the elegant quarter Bogenhausen consists of three parts, which can be visited individually.
The collection of Danish artist Asger Jorn, who created three-dimensional pieces in ceramics, bronze and marble.
You can also see more than 200 posters of Jan Tschichold, who is one of the most outstanding and influential graphic artists of the 20th century.
Last but not least, the prestigious building of Villa Stuck with luxurious interior design and medaled pieces of furniture can be visited.
